Classic Friday (3): Carrie

So today's is a hybrid post :) Both a Classic Friday AND Book to Movie!! Enjoy~

Title: Carrie
Author: Stephan King
PAPERBACK
Publisher:
Pocket
Release Date: November 1, 2002
Geared Towards: Adults
Extra Info: The first publication of Carrie was in 1974.

“What happens if there are others like her? What happens to the world?”

Summary: Carrie White was always a misfit at school, she was always tormented and teased at school. Her mom was religiously zealous, so religious that it becomes an obsession. Then one day, she gets her first period while in the showers after gym. She is made fun of horribly, and Carrie is confused and scared, because she knows nothing about periods and such stuff. The girls’ gym teacher, Miss Desjardin, punishes the girls. One of the girls, Sue Snell feels bad and decides to let her boyfriend, Tommy, the most popular guy in school, take her to the prom. But another one of the girls, Chris, is very very angry, especially because she has been kicked out of prom, and she has a little way of getting back at Carrie. Two words. Pig.Blood.

At first it was just a prank, dump pig blood on Carrie when she gets “crowned” as Queen at prom. But when the prank has ended, the laughter subsided, and the blood drenched on Carrie’s dress. Carrie’s anger shows her hidden side, her telekinesis, and the whole of Chamberlain, Maine, will feel the hell of Carrie’s anger and power, starting with the prom.

Wdebo’s Review: I am a big fan of Stephen King books, but the thing I hate about them is how long it takes for any thing to happen. In the beginning it hints to some action and interesting stuff; however, nothing ever actually happens, until the middle, which is like 200 pages. So, I was very thankful when I saw how thin Carrie was. After reading it, this one became on of my favorite Stephen King book because, not only did it jump right into the action at the very beginning of the book, it was actually very intersting. Telekinesis is a very interesting and novel subject.

Carrie is a very interesting character, though at first you feel bad for her and just hate all the girls, I had very mixed feelings about her, I wasn't sure if I should hate her or pity her in the end. All the other characters were pretty ugh.

Cafe Cover Chat: The cover is weird (like the book), but its pretty interesting and a little disturbing. (B-)

All in all, a very interesting and good Stephen King book, that all Stephen King lovers will hopefully enjoy, and others hopefully will too.

Grade: A-

Thoughts on the movie: So, I didn't watch a lot of the movie, I watched the prom scene and on and a little before, and since it was on AMC, so there were lots of scenes that were cut out. The movie was actually not that bad, it was ok, but just cheesy, and the cheesy-ness made it kinda funny, which I'm sure the director was not going for. But it was a pretty good movie none the less. (B-)

Blood Promise: A Vampire Academy Novel By: Richelle Mead

Title: Blood Promise: A Vampire Academy Novel
Author: Richelle Mead
HARDBACK
Amount of Pages: 503
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Date: August 25, 2009
Geared Towards: Teens/Vampire lovers
Extra Info: This is the fourth book in the Vampire Academy series. (List of books on the bottom)

"I'd promised to portect [Lissa] my whole life, but then Dimitri-tall, gorgeous, fierce Dimitri-had changed it all. I'd been faced with with that horrible choice: continue to protect Lissa or free Dimitri's soul."

Summary (From Front Flap):

Bound by love,
but sworn to kill...
The world thought Dimitri was dead.
And to certain extent, he was.
But I hadn't been able to forget a
conversation he and I once had.
We'd both agreed that we'd rather be dead-
truly dead-than walk the world as Strigoi.
It's time to honor our words.

GAURDIAN ROSE HATHAWAY'S LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
The recent attacks on St. Vladimir's Academy devestated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few vicitms carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck; a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count.

But only one victim matters...Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa-her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess-or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake-and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend-can Rose find the strengt to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrafice herself for a chance at eternal love?

Wdebo's Review: After reading Shadow Kiss, I was angered by that giant cliffhanger, so I defidently could not wait to begin Blood Promise. So, when I saw it at my library, I was pretty over the top excited. I was so happy to begin it, and I was glad it did not disappoint. (But it did a little).

The writing was very good, it is one of my favorite books of the series. Though the beginning two hundred pages were not that bad, it just seemed kinda bland, like nothing really happened. It felt like a walking in a park in a beautiful day, there would randomly be a tree or a playstructure that came up, but other then that it would all just be grass. There were some excitment in that part, but the rest it was filled was "grass" just filler details.

However, after those two hundred pages, the real excitment began. That was the part where I just could not put the book down until I finished every last letter of the whole story until the ending, which totally surprised me.
I liked all of the characters, except Avery, I didn't like her since the very beginning of the book. Even as a Strigoi, Dimitri is still awesomeness, and I now have a soft spot for Adrian. In the first few books I didn't like him at all, but now, he is really growing on me.

Quotes from the book: "He was the man I loved, the man with whom I'd been so perfectly in sync that it was hard to know where I ended and he began. My heart refused to let him go-even if he was technically a monster, he was still out there somewhere." (Page 12)

"We'd both agreed that we'd rather be dead-truly dead-than walk the world as Strigoi" (Page 12)

"It's a good thing I work well under pressure." (Page 503)

Cafe Cover Chat: I like the cover, this one looks cool, except the giant head thing seems pretty overdone, but it looks better then the other Vampire Academy covers. (B)

All in all, a good continuation of the Vampire Diaries series, fans of the book will not be disappointed and should go out now and get it and read it and breatlessly wait for the fifth one!!

Grade: B+

Wdebo's Review: So, I am not very far into the drama (Since it only started a few weeks ago), but it is very very good. When I first saw the pairing of Ella and Jerry, I was not happy because I am a total Hana-Kimi Chunella supporter. But after the first few moments of the show, I knew I was wrong. Ella and Jerry are super cute together. Jerry is a very cool and just seems kinda emotionless, and Ella is this way over hyper girl, who isn't afraid to going above and beyond they totally complete each other.

The story is cute...and Ella is always playing the guy-ish character, first Hana Kimi and now Down With Love, but they are all very good and very amusing. Only Ella would be able to pull off characters like these :)

Ella's character is very cute and loveable, but she can be stupid at times, except it is amusing. Jerry is just so dreamy in this drama, he just gets more and more handsome as time passes, Jerry always plays kinda stony characters, but I really do like Yu Ping, he is just way stupid in love.

The storyline is adorable and sweet, as all TDramas, however there is this maturity yet a silly side that only Ella and Jerry can bring to a drama. Now, all I want to know is, where can I find my own hot lawyer??!!

Music Cafe: I love the songs in the drama especially the opening and ending songs. Jerry's song is great and of course S.H.E is just wonderful!!

All in all, this drama should not be missed, any TDrama lover should defidently watch it, and if you've never watched TDramas then this is quite a nice starter drama, just so sweet, funny and romantic. Jerry + Ella = Awesomeness!!

Grade: A

-English Subbed!-

English Title: Head Over Heels (In Love)
Chinese Title: 愛瘋頭 (Ai Feng Tou)
Artist: Show Luo
Language: Chinese
TTS: HERE!

Wdebo Notes: As a giant Hi My Sweetheart lover [Click HERE for review] I was always happy to hear Ai Feng Tou is the opening credits, however when HMS ended, I felt a giant Ai Feng Tou void in my life :P JK JK, this song is pretty much awesome-ness, one of Show's "rock-y" (It's a word in my world!) songs, he sounds good singing like this he should sing more "rock-y" songs.

Show looks absolutely amazing, black hair really suits him, his tuxedo outfit looks hot, he looks hot in sunglasses, he just plain looks ubber hot in this mv. And the lyrics are so cute....I wish I could find a guy like that!!

Well...I just add in one small fangirl squeel *SQQQUUUEEELLLL*...now, that's over with...please ENJOY!!

Wdebo's Notes: OK, so I have no idea who CN Blue is/are. But my friends were listening to it in Chinese School and it might have...kind of...got stuck in my head. Ahhh the chorus part is just jumping around in there. Well, apart from that it is a good song, except I really don't understand the screaming in the middle.

Flawless: A Pretty Little Liars Novel By: Sara Shepard

Title: Flawless: A Pretty Little Liars Novel
Author: Sara Shepard
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 330
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: March 27, 2007
Geared Towards: Teens
Extra Info: This is the second book in the Pretty Little Liars series(List of books on bottom).

"No one knew that in a just a few short hours, Ali would disappear.
Or that it would be the day she died."

Summary: The Pretty Little Liars' lives just seem to be falling apart more and more. Spencer knows that stealing her sister's boyfriend is wrong, and now her whole family hates her, but is it really her fault that she has a Wren sized hole is her heart that is just begging to be filled? Aria is heartbroken over her English teacher, but she might just have another guy to mend that heart, maybe another little liars' love interest? Emily is scared of her ever growing love for Maya, and Hanna's perfect facade is spiraling down into a mess.

As "A" continues to text them and makes them come face to face with their dirty little secrets, the little liars will soon be buried with their secrets.

Wdebo's Review: A very great continuation of the Pretty Little Lairs series, the story does seem to be getting better with each passing book. At first I thought, these "secrets" didn't seem that bad, and they weren't, a lot of them just seemed like a giant teenage drama but I did empathize with Hanna, at first I really hated her and just thought of her as a stuck up bitch who was overly dramatic, but after a while, as you see what Hanna was going through I really felt bad for her, and wished she would have the strength to at least stand up for herself.

I didn't feel that bad for the other girls, they were just being too over-the-top dramatic and it was so obvious that *Spoiler Alert!* Toby wasn't "A" again with the drama-sheesh *spoiler ended!*

Cafe Cover Chat: I like the PLL covers, except this orange looks ugh (the actual book's orange looks ok, but still ok) and the model's outfit is also pretty ugh. (B-)

All in all, a pretty good second book that makes me want to read the third one.

Should I write reviews for every single Pretty Little Liars book? I don't think so, but I want to get your take on it. Maybe I'll just write a review for the last book. Please comment and tell me your thoughts.

Dark Secrets 1 By: Elizabeth Chandler

Title: Dark Secrets 1: Legacy of Lies; Don't Tell
Author: Elizabeth Chandler
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 431
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Relase Date: August 4, 2009
Geared Towards: Teens
Extra Info: Elizabeth Chandler also wrote the Kissed by an Angel trilogy [Click HERE for review].
From: Simon & Schuster (Review Copy)

Summary (From B.O.B):
Two girls haunted by the past...and destined to relieve it

In Legacy of Lies, Megan has to stay with the uptight grandmother she wants nothing ot do with. She's determined to get through the viist without any drama, but when she falls into a twisted love triangle with potentially fatal consequences, Megan may be caught up in her family's legacy in more ways than she realizes.

In Don't Tell, Lauren knows that by returning to the town where her mother drowned seven years ago, she'll be reliving one of her most haunting memories. When she arrives, she is propelled into a series of mysterious events that mimic the days leading up to her mother's death. Maybe her mother's drowning wasn't an accident after all...and maybe Lauren is next.

Wdebo's Review: I quite enjoyed Kissed By An Angel, so I was really happy to be able to read Dark Secrets. I enjoyed it a lot more then Kissed By An Angel, there is that paranormal romance part of it (always a plus in books), but I guess its because I like stories together that link together but are totally different from each other.

My favorite one of the two was
Legacy of Lies. It's probobly because I believe in reincarnation and how we will keep living lifetimes until we have lived perfectly and can go to a "Heaven." I think it's romantic how they will forever be together for every single lifetime and how each life plays out the same but with different tweeks.

I liked the guys in the stories, they were pretty awesome :) But the girls were pretty weak and it annoyed me.

Cafe Cover Chat: I think it's an ok cover, kinda on the bland side though, and I am not quite sure what the key is for. (B-)

Hungry For More? Yes! I do, I actually really want to read Dark Secrets 2, Don't Tell ended in a kinda of a cliffhanger so I want to see what happens.

All in all, a very well written book, for paranormal romance lovers of all ages, and sure to make you want to read the next installment!

Grade: B+
